First Pregnancy Check-Up – Weeks 6-10

When you discover that you are pregnant, you should contact your general practitioner to schedule the first check-up.

This initial check-up is conducted by a nurse, where a pregnancy journal and a maternity record are created. These documents include important information that will be shared with the maternity hospital.

When you book the appointment for the first consultation through the receptionist, you will receive two digital questionnaires via the Min Læge app. These must be completed before attending the consultation.

During the first consultation, you and the healthcare provider will review the questions you answered in the questionnaires. These may include:

  1. Where do you want the birth to take place? (Home birth, clinic birth, or hospital birth).

  2. Will you accept the offer of examinations for the unborn child?

  3. Are there any hereditary conditions in your family that you believe might affect your child?

  4. Do either the mother or father have a job that could impact the unborn child? If so, how can this be addressed in a beneficial way?

The pregnant individual will then undergo a general health examination, including:

  • Measurement of height and weight.

  • Blood pressure check.

  • Urine test (for sugar and protein).

  • Blood test (for blood type and antibodies, hepatitis B, HIV, and syphilis).

  • A double test, if you opt for prenatal diagnostics.

The double test assesses the risk of having a child with Down syndrome. The blood test results alone cannot provide a conclusion; they must be combined with the nuchal translucency scan and the mother's age. The risk is calculated by the maternity hospital and communicated after the nuchal translucency scan.
