Breast Cancer Screening

All women aged 50-69 are offered breast cancer screening. If you are in this age group, you will be invited to participate in the screening program every two years.

The Danish Health Authority recommends the screening program based on an overall assessment of its benefits and potential risks, but it is important that you make your own choice.

How the Examination Works
The screening is conducted through an X-ray examination of both breasts (mammography). The purpose of the examination is to detect breast cancer at an early stage, which improves the chances of effective treatment and recovery. A lump in the breast can be an indicator of breast cancer. You may not be able to feel the lump yourself, but a mammogram can reveal it.

If the mammogram shows signs of a lump, you will be offered a follow-up procedure known as a clinical mammography. A clinical mammography involves a combination of a physical examination of the breast area by a doctor, an additional X-ray of the breast (mammography), and possibly an ultrasound with or without a tissue sample (biopsy). This process helps determine whether the lump is due to breast cancer or other harmless causes, such as a cyst or a fatty lump.
